Accessibility Statement

Ensuring every European citizen has the ability to report financial crime and access institutional resources, regardless of ability.

1. Our Commitment

The European Financial Crime Agency (EFCA) is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and of the Council. We believe that the digital financial landscape should be inclusive and navigable by everyone, regardless of ability or technology.

Universal Access to Justice

Accessibility is not a feature; it is a fundamental requirement for institutional transparency and the right to report financial crimes.

2. Compliance Status

This website is fully compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 level AA. Our goal is to exceed these standards where possible to provide a superior experience for all users.

Perceivable

Information and user interface components are presentable to users in ways they can perceive (e.g., alt text, high contrast).

Operable

User interface components and navigation are operable (e.g., keyboard navigation, no timing constraints).

Understandable

Information and the operation of the user interface are understandable (e.g., clear language, predictable behavior).

Robust

Content is robust enough that it can be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies.

3. Accessibility Features

We have implemented several features to enhance the accessibility of the EFCA portal:

  • Skip to Content: A hidden link at the top of every page allows keyboard users to bypass navigation and jump directly to the main content.
  • Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements are reachable and operable via keyboard, with clear visual focus indicators.
  • ARIA Landmarks: We use semantic HTML5 elements and ARIA roles to provide clear structural landmarks for screen reader users.
  • Color Contrast: All text and graphical elements meet or exceed the minimum contrast ratios required by WCAG 2.1 AA.
  • Responsive Design: Content scales gracefully from mobile devices to ultra-wide monitors without loss of information or functionality.

4. Non-Accessible Content

Despite our best efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. This primarily includes:

  • Complex blockchain visualizations that are primarily intended for visual representation (text alternatives are provided).
  • Historical PDF documents published before September 2018.
  • Third-party maps or interactive charts that are outside our direct control.
